Abstract

Abstract: Computer Graphics is a multidisciplinary field that requires learners to integrate programming, mathematics, visual perception, design principles, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving skills. However, traditional lecture-based approaches may make abstract concepts such as geometric transformations, coordinate systems, rendering pipelines, lighting, and three-dimensional visualization difficult for students to understand and apply. Project-Based Learning (PBL) provides an alternative instructional approach by engaging students in authentic design and programming tasks that require the application of theoretical knowledge to practical problems. This article examines the role of project-based learning in developing students’ spatial visualization and problem-solving skills in Computer Graphics education. Drawing on recent research in computer graphics education, project-based learning, visualization, and technology-enhanced learning, the study synthesizes evidence concerning the educational benefits and implementation challenges of project-oriented Computer Graphics instruction. The analysis indicates that project-based activities can support students’ understanding of 2D and 3D transformations, improve spatial visualization, encourage computational thinking, increase learner engagement, and strengthen the connection between theoretical concepts and practical applications. At the same time, successful implementation requires appropriate scaffolding, teacher guidance, manageable project complexity, access to suitable hardware and software, and assessment strategies that evaluate both the development process and the final product. The article concludes that PBL can serve as an effective pedagogical framework for Computer Graphics education when projects are carefully aligned with learning objectives and students’ cognitive and technical readiness.
