Abstract

English has become an important part of school education in Uzbekistan because of the country’s growing international cooperation, higher education opportunities, and demand for English-speaking specialists. During the last several years, the government has introduced a number of reforms to improve foreign language education, including changes in the school curriculum, teacher certification, professional development, and the involvement of foreign specialists. However, improving English education is not only a question of what happens inside the classroom. It also depends on how schools manage teachers, resources, professional development, assessment, and support for students.
